Bridget Hill, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in South, Mid and East Devon is looking for volunteers to help set up a new group for fun and fundraising in Torbay. The charity is currently funding various posts at Torbay Hospital as well as continuing to support The Lodge, Torbay’s cancer support and information centre.

Bridget explained, “ We have had very successful fundraising groups in Torquay and Brixham until recently. The Brixham group retired at the end of 2013 and key members of the Torquay group are now taking a step back for personal reasons. This is a great opportunity to start a new group across Torbay, to increase awareness of our services for local people affected by cancer and to fundraise to make sure that those services can continue.”

“Our fundraising groups enjoy friendship and fun. Groups need a leader, someone to take notes at meetings and someone to look after the money side. It would be great if people with other skills such as public speaking or social media would also volunteer. I will support the group as it gets started and grows. Being a Torquay girl myself this is really important to me personally as well as professionally.  At the moment I am looking for people with some time to dedicate to setting up the group. Fundraising experience would be good but isn’t essential. It is more important that volunteers are keen to make a real difference. Once the key volunteers are in place we will be looking for lots of people who can give a few hours now and then to help with events, store and street collections etc.”

Anyone interested in finding out more is asked to contact Bridget by phone (07801 307003), email ([email protected]) or Twitter (@Macmillan_Devon).
