torbay-eclipse-2015Yesterday Friday 20th March 2015, Torbay, like many parts of the UK and Europe paid host to a spectacular event.  It was a spectacular event that only nature knows how to organise and of course with it being in the hands of nature there was also the speculation as to whether we were going to see anything.

The first solar eclipse that I personally saw was back in 1999, I was living in Staffordshire at the time and was on my way to see my dad who lived in Sutton Coldfield.  At the time I can remember thinking what would happen if the moon got stuck over the sun, I was barely 11 at the time.  I can also remember the various products some of the businesses in the local town were selling. Products that looked like cardboard boxes with a mirror inside retailed at around £5 and glasses were almost £3.

Unfortunately, as a boy, I never quite understood how fortunate I was to see such a spectacular sight.  Fast forward 16 years and again I still found myself with those childish thoughts what would happen if it got stuck.  The thought does make me smile, it would be impossible for it to get stuck as essentially time stands still for no one.

torbay-eclipse-2015_1The Solar eclipse yesterday was the last solar eclipse that a lot of us will see.  However there is a partial eclipse coming soon.  However, yesterdays Solar Eclipse was also marred by that spectacular element we have all come to know and love, the English Weather.  Thick cloud covered most parts of Torbay making viewing of the eclipse a little difficult.

Social Media was rocking with various pictures of the eclipse.  I managed to take a couple of pictures before giving in.

When the eclipse did happen the temperature dropped a good couple of degrees and lasted for a couple of minutes, some people even reported seeing a solar flare.

Did you see the eclipse yesterday?  Send us your pictures and experiences to [email protected].
