The Shack Torquay – A Review

So this weekend, was a mixed bag of holding a stall at the Torbay Carnival and spending time with the family.  However this Saturday also saw us down at one of the latest restaurants to open in Torquay, The Shack.BuDOnjNCcAAwGuo

Initially we had considered popping down to the old faithful and reliable, Harvester, however after being told we were in for an hour and half wait due to no tables being available, we thought we would go home via that typical of places – a supermarket.

However, on our way home we went passed the Shack in Torquay, now we had heard a few good things about the Shack from friends and family and thought well why not lets give it a try.

So we popped in, inside was a very relaxed atmosphere, a dull lighting surround and a 10475675_10153036025149008_5945876399528023585_nvery friendly front of house staff who seated us and provided us with menus. We would have to say that the overall interior of the restaurant was very fitting for that type of restaurant.  We did like the fact that, rather than being pounced on right away to get a drink, it was nice to be allowed to peruse the menu before being offered something to drink.

Pints of San Miguel, complete with a small starter of Spicy Tiger Prawns were ordered, turn around time of the food seemed like 5 minutes and the food was fantastic… 3 skewers each containing around 6 prawns complete with lemon and a fantastic sauce.

The customer service assistant that was handling our table orders was very friendly, helpful and gave us enough time to finish our starter, have a chat and once the dishes were collected from our starter our main courses arrived.

Our main courses consisted of, The Mississippi which was a 8oz (1/2lb) burger topped with smoked streaky bacon, onions, monterey jack cheese, Shack garnish and BBQ sauce.  One of the things we liked was the fact you could order extras – which included, Chilli Beef, Smoked Bacon, Salami – just to name a few.

The burger was fantastic, juicy and very tender. The food simply melted in the mouth and is certainly a credit to the Shack Torquay.  I’ve tried a fair few burgers over the years and that will be one that will stay in my mind for many days to come.

The skinny fries, had hardly any grease on them at all and once complete with salt they rounded off an amazing burger, added to this the coolness of the coleslaw which by the taste was made fresh that morning completed the entire dish.  When the dish arrived, I did catch myself thinking is this going to leave me full, and speaking for experience I can definitely say yes it does.

The Shack Chicken was both succulent, juicy and had a fantastic taste, and was certainly not greasy in anyway.  Again, over the years chicken has always been one of those dishes that when you get it right its amazing but when you get it wrong – its awful, the Shack got it completely spot on, not dry and just melted in the mouth.

Both dishes were certainly a talking point on the way home and although we didn’t stay for desert, we would certainly recommend you give all their food a try.

Price wise, we would have to say it was very reasonable, and certainly for the quality of the food that was delivered.  We would recommend the Shack to a friend and are already planning on taking family and friends there to experience this fantastic restaurant.

The Shack, Torquay, is open from Tuesday-Sunday 5pm-11pm with last orders being taken at 9:30pm.  Find out more about this fantastic restaurant on their website at www.theshacktorquay.co.uk
