The purpose-built manufacturing facility at Claylands in Paignton is progressing well, with the building’s piling, foundations and steel frame now complete.
The steel piling works were completed two weeks ahead of schedule and the erection of the steel frame was swift. Works in the New Year will include the completion of the building envelope, with the project’s infrastructure works continuing. The development continues on target towards the scheme’s completion in late summer 2021.
The project will deliver a new home for local multinational manufacturing company Casting Support Systems (CSS) Group. When complete, the new facility will provide 5,500m² of employment space for CSS Group, manufacturing products for the pharmaceutical industry.
Councillor Swithin Long, Torbay Council Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, said: “The appearance of the impressive steel frame shows the magnitude of the project. This also reflects the impact the investment in this project will have in Torbay. It will provide valuable business space and help support local growth, which will create new jobs and boost the local economy. Thanks to the hard work of our project partners, the second lockdown has not adversely effected any progress. It is great to see the building take shape.”
The development is funded by £2M of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership’s Unlocking Growth Funding and an £8M investment in the site by Torbay Council.
