How to make the most of one day in Torbay

Only one day to spend in Torbay?  Whether you’re a foodie, a shopper, a beach bum or a museum enthusiast, Torbay has such a wide variety of to do’s that it’s going to be very difficult to squeeze out the best must dos.  What follows is a short set of recommended must do’s before you head home for the day.

But where to start when you have 3 towns in one location?  You don’t want to spend the day driving around the bay, although it is beautiful by land or by sea.  So when it came to choosing our must do’s we chose locations that were within an easy 5 minute walk or a location you hop on the bus.

If you’re feeling a little drowsy and are in need of a gentle wake up surrounded with panoramic views of the sea front.  Get yourselves down to Pier Point located on the sea front near to the Royal Terrace Gardens.  Choose from a wide selection of freshly baked croissants with scrambled eggs or the delicious smoked salmon  and scrambled eggs on a toasted bagel.  Add a coffee or a pot of tea to your breakfast to set yourselves up for the day.

Brixham Express – VisitDevon

Take the bus to Paignton or head out on the open waves over to Brixham.  Enjoy a mooch around the shops before stopping for a lunchtime meal at the award winning Rock Fish Restaurant owned by Mitch Tonks.

If you’re not yet ready to come back, head over to Millie and Me for cake and coffee or a tea topped with a warm welcome from the owners.

Monkey around at Paignton Zoo 

Walk off your delicious breakfast by taking a trip to Paignton Zoo.  You can catch the number 22, straight from the sea front and be driven all the way to the zoo in a matter of minutes.  Soon you will be in the company of Asiatic lions, desert reptiles and crocodiles and snakes, to name but a few.

Get up close and personal with the beautiful, the rare and the down right mischievous only at Paignton Zoo.

Feeling lucky?  Take your 1s and 2s to Paignton pier and have a bash at the various slot machines.  If you’re not feeling so lucky you can still enjoy the pier by taking part in some of various amusement games from classics like Time Crises to the latest video gaming experiences.

If you’re not up for that, keep walking and try your hand a trampolining, bumper cars, or the mega outdoor slide.  Paignton pier provides both indoor and outdoor fun activities for the whole family.

Torbay Culture and the arts

Upon your return from Paignton head over to the Artizan gallery and spend a couple of hours discovering and sampling the arts at the Artizan Gallery in Lucius Street, Torquay.  Featuring works from a range of local, national and even international artists displayed in a variety of formats from paint, to photography to sculpture and beyond.
