The countdown is on for the Torbay free party event on Torre Abbey green.

Torquay Seafront on June 3rd will be transformed into a location that is fit for a queen, complete with full colours of red white and blue.

The free party, Music on the Meadows, begins at 11am with a DJ set from McGowan Girls to get you all into the groove and is followed by a jam packed line up of evening programmes and live entertainment ending with the fantastic Bootleg Beatles.

Adrian Cunningham from Riviera FM will be comparing the event and introducing all the musical performances that will be running throughout the day. Not only is there music for the adults but younger party goes can enjoy Kidz Town and a Children’s Tent, brought to you by the team behind Children’s Week and Doorstep Arts. There will be plenty of traditional games courtesy of the Sea Scouts as well as lots of skills to learn and a range of characters to meet.

Music in the Meadows is a joint event hosted by Torbay Council and the English Riviera BID Company in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and has been designed to bring residents and visitors together to mark this momentous occasion.

A note on road closures

To ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely the junction between Torbay Road, Belgrave Road and the Kings Drive will be closed from 10am until midnight.

Alongside this, if you are attending the event you may need to use public transport to and from the event. Torquay train station is quite literally a stones throw from the main event and there are bus stops with links to all the major routes both in and out of Torquay.

Car parks can also be found at Torre Valley, Abbey Park, Sheddon Hill and Lower Union Lane.

Food and drink

You are encouraged to bring with you a Jubilee picnic, with additional food and drink available to purchase throughout the day. Both cash and card payments will be accepted, with people encouraged to bring both to avoid disappointment as there will be no cash withdrawal facility and your nearest one is on Torquay Harbourside which charges around £1.75 for withdrawals.

To minimise plastic waste, fresh drinking water will be provided to top up your water bottles. Glass bottles of any kind are not permitted on the site.

Toilets will be available including a disabled provision which are completely free to use.

You can even bring Fido, the dog, as long as he is kept on a lead. Dogs remain the responsibility of the owners at all times.

Councillor Within Long, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing at Torbay Council said:

“This event is the biggest free party on the meadows since the days of the Radio 1 Roadshows. The fantastic line up, is set to take us through the decades of Her Majesty The Queen’s momentous reign. Open to everyone in Torbay over the bank holiday weekend, we’re looking forward to seeing the meadow turn red, white and blue against our marvellous beach backdrop.”

Councillor Nicole Amil, Chair of the Airshow Working Party and Member Champion, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee said:

After months of planning, we’re delighted to be able to stage this wonderful free event. Everyone including children of all ages are invited to come along, laugh, smile and make memories together, all for a once in lifetime celebration of Her Majesty The Queen.
