Living Coasts, Torquay are holding the ultimate underwater experience which will take you on a deep dive into the natural wonders of Tor Bay.

Beneath the Bay is an after-hours exclusive event which will feature top naturalists, wildlife displays and an insight into the hidden treasure of the Bay-seagrass.

Wild Planet Trust UK Conservation Officer, Dr Tracey Hamston Said:

It’s going to be a fascinating social gathering for everyone interested in natural history, marine conservation and diving in the Bay.

Clare Rugg, Curator of Torquay’s Coastal Zoo went on to say:

Seagrass forms dense underwater meadows in the shallows of our Bay. Like coral reefs and rainforests, these underwater gardens are full of life. And like those better-known habitats, they are under threat

Living Coasts, Torquay has a special interest in the area and is involved with seagrass conservation locally as well as ensuring efforts are made to keep Torbay’s beaches clean.

Devon based marine biologist, underwater photographer and author, Paul Naylor will be giving a talk on Marin Meadow Movie Stars, an acclaimed guide to identifying wildlife in and around the UK coastline.

Paul said:

From spectacular cuttlefish to versatile crabs, the animals that live in our seagrass beds, and in the undersea plains and reefs nearby, are colourful in both the visual sense and in their fascinating behaviour. I’ll use underwater photographs and video to give an insight into their intriguing lives

Paul is also best known for his book Great British Marine Animals.

On the day you can also expect to meet Duncan Kelly, from the Torbay Seal Project, who will deliver a talk on the often problematic relationship between seals and humans.

Duncan explained:

This is as much about understanding people as it is about understanding grey seals. We need to protect grey seals and manage the relationship between the fishers, visitors, residents and seals.

You will also see the Torbay Cleaner Coasts Initiative who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Torbay Cleaner Coasts are involved with removal of litter from the local marine environment by organising dives and coastal cleans in and around Torbay.

Alongside the great and motivational talks you can also expect artwork displays by local artist, Christian Saunders.

Tickets are just £5.00 and booking is highly recommended.

You can order your tickets from the official Living Coasts website.
