A Eurovision winner will be walking on sunshine across the stage at the Palace Theatre on 30 September and you’re all invited to the party. Katrina, from Katrina and the Waves will be performing at the charity concert, which has been organised by local charity – ESSW Charitable Trust – the evening will also see local band, The Hybrid 5 in support and later at the after-show party.
‘We are delighted that Katrina will be coming to Paignton to perform all of her hits and her new releases, particularly when the UK is set to host the next Eurovision Song Contest, a perfect event to keep the Eurovision buzz going and raise funds for great causes at the same time’ said Ian Coulton, Chair of Trustees for ESSW Charitable Trust ‘as with all businesses, the pandemic had a negative effect on our activities, but now we are back in action and are looking forward to more and more events’
The charity which raises funds for children caught up in humanitarian crises overseas – with its focus now on Ukraine, was established in 2018 by Ian, a local PE teacher, and his colleagues, Matt Easton and Gill Portman. The three are all volunteers and work tirelessly to put on events and find innovative ways to raise funds.
The recent charity auction held at the Palace Theatre raised over £4,000; with other activities, such as pig racing and jumble sales, and sponsored participants at sporting events bringing additional financial support, the charity’s fundraising is going from strength to strength.
‘All proceeds from the charity concert will go to charities which help children caught up in humanitarian crises overseas’ added Ian. ‘We do hope that as many people as possible will able to come along to the charity concert, and join us for the aftershow party, to enjoy that special Eurovision atmosphere’
