Cockington Court has launched its ‘Handcrafted Christmas’ campaign encouraging local residents to buy at least one handcrafted gift from a small business this Christmas.
People are being asked to shop thoughtfully and independently this festive period and to swap some of their usual Christmas spend with the big retailers to support small local businesses instead.
Set in an award-winning country park just outside of Torquay, Cockington Court is home to a wide range of talented creative makers crafting everything from jewellery to bespoke furniture, original paintings to traditional wooden toys and homeware.
The craft makers studios offer a wide range of unique art and handmade gifts, all created in front of your eyes. Meanwhile, the Craft Shop located in the Manor House is packed to the brim with yet more quality products all handcrafted by artists and craftmakers from the local area; a festive treasure trove of gifts to discover. The kitchen gallery will also be hosting a ‘Desire’ exhibition from 26 November featuring house interior items created by local artists, all of which are for sale.

With 450 acres of beautiful parkland, visitors are encouraged to make the most of their shopping trip to Cockington Court by enjoying a stroll around the estate, soaking up the festive atmosphere and relaxing at the Seven Dials Café with a hot chocolate and mince pie.
Artist and jeweller, Chrystine Jones, whose studio has been based in Cockington Court for three years added: ‘‘Buying handcrafted gifts this Christmas not only supports small businesses like mine, but also means that shoppers can make more ethical and environmentally friendly purchases. Products are made right here in Torbay not in some far-flung country, and locally sourced materials are used wherever possible.
‘’Products are made with love and care, using longstanding handcrafted techniques that guarantee quality. With a wide range of talented local artists and makers under one roof, Cockington Court offers a wonderful shopping experience for those wanting to buy something truly special this Christmas.’’
For an extra special Christmas Shopping experience Cockington Court is hosting a Christmas Fayre in Saturday 3rd December, 11am – 4pm. Cockington’s creative makers will be joined by 12 market stalls; a handpicked selection of local makers selling a beautiful selection of handcrafted gifts to tempt you.
There will be a Christmas choir singing traditional carols as well as face-painting and Lego building with Lego Masters to keep the children entertained. Festive treats will be available from the Seven Dials Café. The event offers the perfect opportunity to buy hand crafted gifts whilst soaking up an extra special festive atmosphere.
Cockington Court is managed by TDA as a craft centre, visitor attraction and creative business space. It is open daily from 10am to 4.30pm.
