Today, pirates all across Brixham are celebrating the return of the Brixham Pirate Festival, running from the 5th -7th May inclusive.  Towards the middle of January, a statement issued by the festival on the 17th January read that the Brixham Pirate festival would have to be cancelled due to a severe lack of funding.

Following a huge funding campaign on the official Go Fund Me website, sponsorship/donations from local businesses and people from around the bay and beyond, it looks like the festival is a go.

A recent addition to the official Brixham Pirate Festival website read:

, it is with GREAT pleasure that we can announce that we ARE now having a 2018 Brixham Pirate Festival!!! Remember – it’s 5th May to the 7th inclusive

This has been achieved with fantastic help from companies, organisations and supporters who have rallied round to save Your Festival.

However, a last minute donation by Brixham Town Council was the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle that has made the festival a possibility this year.

With funding now secured the organisers are now in the process of putting together the final touches for the 2018 festival.

Already the organisers have announced that /the replica flag ship, El Galeon, will be sailing into Brixham port especially for the festival.  El Galeon is a 17th Century 5 deck flagship, the organisers are planning all kinds of skirmishes, attacks and boarding’s on both the El Galeon and our very own Golden Hind.

Further details about and news about the Brixham Pirate Festival will be available to view on their official Facebook page.

If you’ve not yet donated, people are being encouraged to continue to donate what they can to keep the festival going into 2019.

That leaves us with just one thing to say, an arghmazing achievement and one which we’re sure we will all go out and support in May.
