Brixham Day Centre set to open early 2019.

Brixham is about to get a brand new, state of the art day centre at the Brixham Hospital site.

The full range of services at the new centre is yet to be determined.

The day centre will host a wide range of health and wellbeing services as well as combat feelings of isolation.

Alongside the services people in Brixham will also be able to take advantage of the healthy lifestyles and carers support program.

Last but not least, external people will be able to hire some of the spaces available.

A Group effort

Brixham Day Centre, Laying the foundations

Torbay and South Devon NHS are working in partnership with the Brixham Hospital League of Friends and voluntary sector organisation Brixham Does Care.

The League of Friends has donated £800,000 to fund the build and also overseeing the project build.

The Brixham Day Centre will be known as ‘The Friends Centre’ and it is expected that it will open in the early part of 2019.

Peter Day, Chair of the Brixham League of Friends said:

I am pleased to report that the build for ‘The Friends Centre’ is progressing well, with the main walls now under construction. The size and shape of the centre has been designed to provide an attractive landmark, whilst at the same time blending into the existing Hospital site.

We are really proud to name the new building ‘The Friends Centre’. We feel it identifiesthe true nature of its usage and acknowledges our funding contribution of £800,000. The centre will be a meeting place for residents to meet socially and where necessaryto receive health and social care.

Widest range of health and wellbeing services available

It is envisioned that the Day Care Centre will run alongside the services offered at Brixham Community Hospital.

The construction of the Brixham Day Centre will see the local community accessing some of the widest range of health and wellbeing services available locally.

Emma Barton, Director at Brixham Does Care said:

The Friends Centre will provide the community with access to a variety of health and care services and the day care service will aim to provide social and mental interaction and also support care givers to have a much needed break through the day care service.

It will be an inviting and accessible space to all the community and will be focal pointfor everyone. We are delighted to be running the centre and working in partnership with the Hospital League of Friends and the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trustto do this project.

Brixham Day centre, enabling people

Brixham Day Centre, Going Up.

The purpose of the day centre is to help people live their lives as health and as well as possible.

One of the long term goals in Brixham was to provide a purpose built day care facility.

This project honours and delivers that promise.

We’re certainly looking forward to seeing the centre open in the early months of 2019.

Once opened the Brixham Does Care group will run the Brixham Day Centre.

A range of computer aided visuals have been created to give an artist impression of the day care centre.
